Things to Know Before Buying a Laptop

Nowadays many people are leaning more towards laptops than desktop computers. There are several reasons behind this. However, many people in the market fail to make the right decision due to many ironies while buying a laptop.

So today, I will try to give some idea about the things that need to be taken care of before buying a laptop. All the things you need to keep in mind before buying a laptop are:

Brand

There are different brands of laptops in the market now. Such as Asus, Dell, HP, Acer, Lenovo etc. If you want to buy a good brand laptop then you can buy Asus or Dell. These two brands are extremely good in the world of laptops. The price of the laptop will depend on your configuration.

Processor

Talking about desktop computers and laptops, the processor is the main part of these two devices.

Processor, which simply means to process. Your computer is processing instructions from both you and the machine every second. Now processor power is differentiated by its ability to process per second or a single time.

Currently AMD and Intel processor laptops are available in the market. But in the race of brands, so far laptops with Intel processors are seen more in the market. Before buying a laptop, you should check the generation of the processor and its clock-speed.

From the generation it is possible to guess the basic information. For example, a laptop with a 3rd generation processor definitely cannot beat the performance of a 4th generation processor of the same series. It should be noted that laptops with the latest generation processors are a bit expensive, along with their performance.

Processors cannot be upgraded in laptops like in desktops. Although you can upgrade the socket-supported processor of the same series of your motherboard, it is a very complicated process and should not be done without the help of an experienced person. So, try to buy a laptop with a good quality processor while buying the laptop.

Display

Before buying a laptop, you must pay attention to the quality of the display. Because you have to work by looking at the laptop display. While buying a laptop, you have to check the resolution before purchasing.

I would recommend you get a 1080p ie full HD display. A display of this resolution is ideal for all tasks. If for some reason you can't get a full HD screen, then definitely buy a laptop with at least HD  720p screen.

Hard Drive

Hard drives are where your data is stored. Currently SSD or solid state drive is used by everyone. Although you will find HDD or spinning drives in many budget laptops.

You should buy an SSD of at least 256 gigabytes if you can afford it. SSD gives relatively faster performance especially when you take an SSD with NVMe connection, which transfers data faster than older SATA versions. Sometimes you can find laptops that run the OS on an NVMe SSD with an old SATA drive as storage  a budget-friendly choice that still gives good speed.

RAM

While purchasing a laptop you must also look at the RAM. If you want smooth performance, buy a laptop with 4 GB RAM or more.

And if you ever plan to do things like gaming or video editing on your laptop, you will need 8GB or 16GB of RAM. In the case of RAM, DDR (Double Data Rate) and bus speed should also be taken care of.

Graphics

Laptops usually have a built-in graphics card attached. But if you ever want to do graphics work, video editing, or want to play high-end games, then a separate/dedicated graphics chip is required.

Some parts of a laptop can be changed later, but the graphics card can never be changed. So if a dedicated graphics card is required, it should be decided at the time of purchase, since laptops are manufactured differently with or without a graphics card.

You can get Nvidia and AMD series graphics cards in laptops as well as desktops. If you want an Nvidia graphics card, you can get GTX or RTX series cards.

The GTX series includes the GTX 1050 to the GTX 1660, and the RTX series includes the RTX 2050 to the RTX 2080. RTX series laptops are much more expensive than GTX.

Port

While buying a laptop, you should pay attention to what ports the laptop has. Make sure that the laptop has more than one USB 3 port. It will provide some additional benefits. Also note that there is a port called C port (USB-C) on laptops nowadays.

USB 3 is able to transfer data 10 times faster than USB 2. As a result, your time will be much less. And it is better if the laptop has a USB 3.1 port. Also check if the laptop has other necessary ports.

Battery

When buying a laptop, be aware of its battery backup. Because of this you can use the laptop whenever and wherever you want. 4 cell and 6 cell batteries are available in the market for laptops.

Budget

Finally, consider the budget. It is very important to fix a specific budget before buying a laptop. Before looking for a laptop, if you fix the budget, you can buy according to that value.

So I think this will be a little helpful for you before purchasing a laptop.
